The Query Builder allows you to edit queries or to create new ones. It is aimed at advanced users, but editing a template query to change the output or add a filter is easy.
•To start building your own query, go to the “Query Builder” tab
•Access Query Builder by clicking on “Browse data model” or by selecting a data type in right hand box
•Double click on “Gene” in right hand box to bring up Model browser
•Click “SUMMARY” next to gene to bring up default fields for that data type.
•Default fields can be deleted using the red circle with“x”
•Additional fields can be added by selecting SHOW” next to the field
•Queries can be constrained selecting “CONSTRAIN” next to the field
Sample Simple Query
• The goal: to find the subset of uninformative gene symbols that begin with “zmp:”
•Click “CONSTRAIN” next to “Symbol”
•Chose = and fill in “zmp:*” in the box. Click “Add to query”
•Click on blue circle with < to edit constraints
•To run query, click “Show results”
•Returned gene names and symbols link to ZFIN gene pages
•Return to Query by clicking on “Trail: Query” in upper left hand side
