The Zebrafish Disease Models Society (ZDMS) encourages you to attend the 12th Zebrafish Disease Models Conference (ZDM12), which will be held July 15-18th in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
ZDMS focuses on the need for relevant animal models to support mechanistic understanding of disease pathology and spur the development of innovative translational approaches.

Zebrafish emerged as a new animal model for research in recent years. Its advantages include ease of use, low maintenance costs and high throughput. Being a vertebrate model, zebrafish resembles human physiology in many aspects. Zebrafish is used commonly in developmental biology, cancer, toxicology, genetic disorders, neuronal disorders, diabetes and cardiovascular research.
Since the first establishment of the zebrafish facility in Qatar, there has been an increasing interest from research institutions in Qatar to use this model. This workshop is organized by the Biomedical Research center in Qatar university.
The aim of this workshop program is to focus on the utilization of the zebrafish model in a variety of research investigations, and to introduce this relatively new animal model to students, academicians, researchers and health care practitioners in the nation. The workshop will also provide a platform for establishing new collaborations. The event will involve both theoretical lectures from renowned experts in the field, as well as a hands-on practical session to train interested researchers.

The event will involve both theoretical lectures from renowned experts in the field as well as hands-on practical sessions to train interested researchers. The learning outcomes are:
- Get an insight into the zebrafish as an animal model and its use as a model in different research fields in comparison to other models.
- Learn about the emerging and most recent work done on the use of zebrafish in the developmental biology research field.
- Learn about the emerging and most recent work done on the use of zebrafish as a human disease model.
- Get the chance to be part of hands-on practical session, which focuses on the main areas in the zebrafish research. This includes maintenance of zebrafish systems and monitoring of water quality, fluorescent and confocal imaging of zebrafish, mrna and morpholino antisense oligonucleotides injections for knockdown or overexpression of proteins, crispr-cas9 genome editing technology, and toxicology assays.

The deadline to apply for the Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory "Zebrafish Development and Genetics” summer course (August 5-19, 2019) is MONDAY, APRIL 15th.
This intensive two-week course caters to advanced graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and independent investigators who are incorporating the zebrafish model into their research and/or teaching. Applications from underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged.
The hands-on curriculum focuses on molecular, genetic, and imaging methods for using zebrafish as a powerful model system for the study of vertebrate development, regeneration, and disease. A variety of time-proven and emerging technologies are covered. The overall goal is to promote excellence in zebrafish research by creating a collaborative environment that engages students through comprehensive laboratory exercises and interactive discussions guided by 20 international leaders in the field. Enrollment is limited to 22 students.

The International Zebrafish Society (IZFS) is pleased to announce a new opportunity for junior members. We have established the Christine Beattie Travel Award to honor the memory of Dr. Christine Beattie and her commitment to training the next generation. The award will provide travel assistance to a postdoc or post-candidacy graduate student attending the International Zebrafish Conference.

This is a short course for veterinarians, technicians, trainees, principal investigators, and core managers who utilize or plan to utilize fish models in laboratory research. The course is directed by Michael Kent, Ph.D., College of Veterinary Medicine, Oregon State University. Course faculty include: Rodman G. Getchell, Ph.D., Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine; Christian Lawrence, M.S., Children’s Hospital Boston; and Jan Spitsbergen, DVM, Ph.D., DACVP, Department of Microbiology, Oregon State University.
The course is offered at the MDI Biological Laboratory, located in Bar Harbor, Maine on Mount Desert Island, the home of Acadia National Park. It is intended to help laboratory technicians, researchers, and veterinarians monitor and maintain the health of a colony of aquatic organisms, focusing on zebrafish. This course is appropriate for veterinarians and veterinary trainees, as well as technical staff, students, postdocs, and investigators.
The course consists of lectures, laboratory exercises with a high faculty to student ratio, and discussion. During the course, there are ample opportunities for students to discuss unusual and/or unsolved diagnostic case experiences from their home laboratories as problem-solving exercises.
This course is now approved by the AAVSB RACE (American Association of Veterinary State Boards Registry of Approved Continuing Education) to offer a total of *33 CE* (Continuing Education) Credits to veterinarians and veterinary technicians. RACE approval is for the subject matter categories of both category 1 (Scientific) and 3 (Non-Scientific-Practice Management/Professional Development).
