Blog from March, 2017

Key Dates:
Abstract submission deadline: July 1, 2017
Workshop registration deadline: August 1, 2017
Workshop: Oct 2 – 4, 2017

Organizer: Prof. Ishwar Parhar, Monash University Malaysia

Zebrafish is gaining prominence as an important vertebrate model for investigating various human diseases. The number of researchers using zebrafish models has been dramatically increasing throughout the world including Malaysia. We had previously organized the 1st Malaysia Zebrafish Disease Model Workshop in 2015. The event attracted over 70 participants from local and international Universities and institutes. Despite the high interest in the zebrafish model among researchers in Malaysia, many researchers in Malaysia still do not have access to zebrafish techniques/tools and thus may not be utilizing the model to its fullest potential. This workshop aims to provide a platform for Malaysian researchers and students who are currently working or planning to work with the zebrafish model to learn the latest research techniques using zebrafish. The workshop is structured around research seminars and lectures, along with hands-on sessions conducted by international and local experts. This workshop will also promote collaboration within the zebrafish researchers’ community in Malaysia.

Topics covered:

Drug discovery

In association with the 10th European Zebrafish Meeting in Budapest, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and ZFIN, we are pleased to announce a half-day 'Utilising Zebrafish Genome Data' Hands-on tutorial.

This tutorial covers
Reference data sources
Genome Browsing
Exploring Sequence Variation and Disease
Comparative Sequence Analysis
ZFIN Resources
via presentations and hands-on exercises and is taught by experienced instructors. You will need to bring your own laptop to access the manual and work thorough the examples. This tutorial will cover the basics about the generation of the reference assembly, how genes are built and browsed and how additional genomic features can be identified and interpreted.

For more details, email us at zebrafish-odw@sanger.ac.uk

When registering for the meeting, you will find an option to also register for the tutorial. The tutorial is not for profit, but we are charging a €50 participation fee to cover the costs for room, equipment and catering. Any problems, please let us know.

Looking forward to meeting you there!
