Paul D. Henion Graduate Student Travel Award Fund

Many of you have heard the sad news that in January of this year, the zebrafish community lost a colleague and friend, Dr. Paul Henion, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Paul did his graduate work with Story Landis and his postdoctoral work with Jim Weston. It was during his postdoctoral years at the University of Oregon where Paul began working on neural crest development in zebrafish, research he continued as an independent investigator at Ohio State University. Paul was a developmental biologist who thought deeply and rigorously about his science and shared that passion with his graduate students. Because of Paul’s commitment to graduate student education, Paul’s wife Christine Beattie, also a zebrafish biologist at Ohio State University, their sons Sam and Neil, together with colleagues and friends and the Society for Developmental Biology, established the “Paul D. Henion Graduate Student Travel Award” to honor Paul’s memory. This fund will award graduate student travel fellowships to the SDB Annual meeting. We are currently building a healthy fund and ask that you consider a generous donation in Paul’s memory. If you have any questions, please contact Sharon Amacher (amacher.6@osu.edu) or Christine Beattie (christine.beattie@osumc.eud).
