Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) position in Integrative Animal Biology at Syracuse University

The Department of Biology at Syracuse University (biology.syr.edu) is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of Integrative Animal Biology. This position is part of an ambitious Invest Syracuse Cluster Hire Initiative in the broad area of bioinspired science and technology. As an integral part of this investment, Syracuse University is actively recruiting multiple candidates for tenured/tenure-track faculty positions for a cohesive research cluster in the focus area of form and function which seeks to understand and optimize movement in organisms, robots, and human-machine interfaces. Faculty hired into this position will build on existing strengths in the focus area and establish their lab in the Biology department with access to the world-class facilities of the multidisciplinary BioInspired Institute that spans multiple departments in the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in a relevant area of biology or a closely related field and research experience employing an integrative approach to answer fundamental questions in biology. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in the areas of evolutionary biomechanics and functional morphology with a research focus on the diversity and evolution of animal function. Syracuse University is particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate past accomplishment toward fostering diversity and building an inclusive climate in research and/or teaching to maximize their effectiveness interacting with diverse groups of colleagues, students and community members. The candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized, externally-funded research program and participate in graduate and undergraduate teaching and mentoring in the areas of their expertise.

A strong commitment to collaborative, cross-disciplinary research is especially desirable. The selected candidate will complement existing strengths in the Biology Department at Syracuse University including Evolution and Animal Behavior; Genetics, Genomics and Epigenetics; Neuroscience; Ecology and Plant Biology; and Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology. The Department of Biology also has strong research and educational ties to the adjacent Upstate Medical University and the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
