Research Associate - Zebrafish development - Cell Atlas Initiative - CZ Biohub San Francisco

Lab Vision:

The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub (the "CZ Biohub”) is a newly formed, well-funded, non-profit, life science research institute located in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco, California. We are committed to solving some of the world’s biggest problems together: we seek to help cure, prevent or manage all human diseases in our children’s lifetime. We find and invest in the best and brightest scientists and engineers and we seek to create an environment of true and free-flowing collaboration. We provide the best technologies and tools available – and when they don’t exist yet, we build them.

Part of our Cell Atlas Initiative, Loic Royer’s lab is building light-sheet microscopes and is developing state-of-the-art image processing software to build the first complete map of vertebrate development in zebrafish. We are an interdisciplinary team of biologists, physicists and software engineers working together to generate an atlas of vertebrate’s development and model complex cellular choreographies.

Opportunity:

We are looking for a RA with a BS/MS in Molecular and Cell Biology with a relevant lab experience. The candidate must have experience with cloning, PCR, site-directed mutagenesis, RNA techniques and fluorescence imaging. The candidate will work under the supervision of the lab biologist to generate a Zebrafish Developmental Cell Atlas using state-of-the-art light-sheet microscopy and conceive novel transgenic zebrafish line for live imaging.

The candidate will have the opportunity to be part of a well-funded academic project and collaborate with the rest of the team on other projects. This position offers the unique possibility to participate in the biology and acquire competences in computation and microscopy. The candidate must show great attention to detail, be highly organized, team-oriented and an effective communicator.

What we provide:

  • The resources to conceive disruptive technology and obtain ground-breaking results to advance knowledge of cell biology and development.
  • Collaborative environment with access to talent and resources of the Biohub platforms (Sequencing, Bioengineering, Genome Editing, Data Sciences and Advanced Imaging).
  • Opportunity to publish and commitment to career development.

Responsibilities:

  • Basic lab molecular biology (Cloning, PCR, RNA manipulations, etc.).
  • Zebrafish injection and manipulation.
  • Sample mounting and imaging.
  • Maintenance of Zebrafish transgenic and fish facility.
  • Basic lab organization.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Molecular and Cell Biology or a related discipline.
  • A relevant independent research experience.
  • Experience with cloning, PCR, RNA techniques.
  • Experience with fluorescence imaging.
  • Must be highly collaborative, team-oriented and have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Desired:

  • Developmental biology knowledge.
  • Previous experience with Zebrafish.
  • Previous transgenesis work.
  • Python programming experience, ideally for image processing.

This opportunity is full-time only. No contractors, consultancies or recruiters will be considered. CZ Biohub is proud to be an equal opportunity employer
