Job Description:
This is post graduate training position for a genetics lab at Yale university. The position is to learn and provide help with the zebrafish research model. It requires hands on work and maintenance of the freshwater tropical fish large fish facility under the supervision of the principal investigator of the laboratory. The focus of the overall project is to use zebrafish as a model system to study vertebrate development and behavior.
Essential Duties of the Position:
Prepare fish food and feed fish, check and maintain water quality,
breed fish (both wild type and mutant) and raise young,
maintain tanks and equipment,
make up solutions, track and maintain optimal fish health.
Required:
Recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in marine, aquatic, or fishery Biology, or related Biology fields. Must be self-motivated and physically capable of maintaining 10-liter fish tanks in shelving units.
Desirable:
Strong instrumentation skills,
high degree in independence, highly motivated, enthusiastic and strong work ethic.
Preferred:
knowledge in areas of molecular biology such as DNA cloning, PCR, genotyping.
