General Purpose:  

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, assist in research projects that use a zebrafish model system to study the function of genes associated with autism. Position duties require conducting research, working with the Principal Investigator to plan, design and perform experiments. Experimental duties include performing molecular biology techniques, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and zebrafish microinjection as well as general lab maintenance, including organizing databases, placing orders, maintaining stock solutions, ensuring lab equipment is functioning properly, and maintaining updated safety and animal regulatory protocols. Assist in maintenance of zebrafish facility and monitor water quality and fish health. Breed and genotype zebrafish to maintain genetic lines and maintain a detailed record of zebrafish lines.

 

Required Education and Experience: 

Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability and ability with animal husbandry and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in molecular biology, including cloning, PCR, in-vitro transcription, western blotting, immunohistochemistry.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic, highly motivated, strong work ethic, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently
  • Preferred Education and Experience: 3 or more years of experience. Ability to lead and provide oversight in a lab setting. Prior experience with zebrafish.
