Genetics and embryonic development lab (PI: Antonio Giraldez) at Yale University is seeking a full time, highly motivated and enthusiastic research assistant, interested in developing skills in molecular biology and genetics. Our lab uses zebrafish as a model system to study the genetic factors and molecular pathways that regulate early embryonic development. Research topics focus on brain development, disease models, and molecular mechanisms of development, and applies both computational and experimental techniques. The Research Assistant's primary responsibilities would include genotyping zebrafish genetic mutants, generating genetic mutants using the CRISPR-Cas9 system, and using developmental and molecular assays to determine the effects of mutagenesis on embryonic development (microscope imaging, western blots, RNA-sequencing, etc.). Our lab is fast-paced and highly collaborative, making for an inspiring and dynamic working environment.
The ideal candidate will hold a B.A./B.S. in biology or related field, and have some experience with basic molecular biology (cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis, etc.). Desired candidates are self motivated, organized, responsible, and enthusiastic. Extensive training in molecular biology and genetics will be given in the lab, making this an ideal position for someone who would like to gain research experience in preparation for graduate or medical school in biology.
Start date: March 1, 2019 is preferred, but dates are flexible. The position is for 1 -2 years.
