This is an exciting opportunity for a behavioural scientist who is keen to get away from the bench to help bring innovative solutions to behavioural researchers worldwide, in a role that involves both teaching to, and learning from, the scientific community. Zantiks was founded in 2014, and produces an ever-growing range of equipment that enables researchers to measure animal behaviour simply.
Ideally the candidate will have a first degree in psychology, behavioural neuroscience, biology or another degree that encompasses animal behaviour and preferably will have a PhD (or Masters degree) in behavioural neuroscience or similar. We are also interested in candidates with honours in other disciplines such as science engineering, computer science, and with an interest in behavioural neuroscience / animal behaviour.
With a deep interest in psychology and animal behaviour, the candidate will need to be highly motivated and proactive, computer literate and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have experience in conducting behavioural studies or have experience in programming and statistical analysis.
Daily tasks will require good people skills, strong organisational skills (including project management using a computerised management system), ability to understand customer needs and present technical information clearly.
Part of a small team, initially providing maternity cover, but with the potential for a permanent contract, you will be the lead contact for clients and potential customers, providing pre- and post-sale support and work closely with collaborating labs to ensure the company is up to date on the best use and potential developments required for all aspects of the equipment. The role includes contributing to the support content on the website, including video. Flexibility and willingness to attend local and international conferences to demonstrate the equipment is essential, as is the ability to give technical presentations to groups at scientific conferences and in university departments. The role requires problem solving, equipment testing, as well as providing technical support assistance to clients. The new team member will contribute to researching organisations and individuals online to develop new leads and potential new markets, as well as contacting potential customers via email and phone.
The new team member will work from our Cambridge office.

The Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) at the University of Pittsburgh has an opening for an Aquatics Facility Manager (position #0135537). The position oversees and directs the daily operations and management of the DLAR 10,000 tank aquatics facility including the aquatic housing systems, husbandry practices, and animal care personnel in compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Ensuring that institutional policies, DLAR guidance documents, AAALAC and OLAW standards, and other practices applicable to the provision of animal husbandry and care are adhered to at the facility level;
- The supervision, direction, performance management, and professional development of assigned animal care personnel;
- Ensuring that aquatic housing systems, mechanical tank washing equipment, and related facility equipment required for the daily provision of animal husbandry and care are functioning properly and maintained in good working condition and repair;
- Assessing and responding to tank water quality monitoring alarms generated by the SCADA system and communicating the nature and resolution of critical alarms to research personnel;
- Ensuring that static tank maintenance, feeding of special (non-standard) diets, tank changing procedures, and other procedures performed by research personnel are conducted in accordance with established practices and timelines;
- Maintaining a standard 80% larvae survivability for wild type zebrafish;
- Promoting effective communication and collaboration that foster and maintain productive working relationships with other DLAR leaders, investigators and research personnel, the IACUC, EH&S, and other entities involved with the animal care and use program.
Relevant education, training, experience, and skills include:
- Minimum five years of experience in a large, shared zebrafish resource core facility managing the daily operations, supervising personnel, and supporting a variety of customers and research interests;
- Demonstrated leadership qualities including excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills and the ability to face and resolve conflict;
- Master’s Degree relevant to the area(s) of responsibility;

Duties and Responsibilities
Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Associate within the Division of Infection and Immunity at UCL in Dr Gillian Tomlinson's laboratory.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual interested in integrating cutting-edge human and zebrafish models to study the immunopathogenesis of tuberculosis. The post is funded by a Medical Research Council Clinician Scientist Fellowship entitled "Tuning the immune response in tuberculosis", and combines a human experimental tuberculosis challenge model with studies using Mycobacterium marinum infection of zebrafish to identify and validate host factors that calibrate a favourable immune response in tuberculosis.
The post-holder will be supervised by Dr Gillian Tomlinson based in the Cruciform Building at UCL. Dr Tomlinson works closely with Dr Mahdad Noursadeghi's and Professor Benny Chain's groups which study host immune responses to infectious diseases at genome-wide level with a particular focus on tuberculosis (www.innate2adaptive.com). The zebrafish work will be supported by the fully managed world class research aquarium at UCL.
There is an established track record for department post-doctoral staff gaining personal fellowships. Independently minded and talented investigators will be encouraged and supported in seeking such fellowship support.
The post is available until 1st March 2020 in the first instance.
Key Requirements
Applicants must have an MSc (or equivalent degree) and/or a PhD (or equivalent degree) or about to be awarded in a relevant subject.
Candidates must be competent in molecular and cellular biology techniques including RNA and DNA extraction, qPCR, PCR, cloning and tissue culture.

A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Molofsky Lab in the Department of Psychiatry, University of California, San Francisco. Our lab studies the roles of glial cells in developmental synapse formation with a particular interest in neuropsychiatric diseases including autism and schizophrenia. Postdoctoral position to study Wnt signaling and embryonic cell polarity.
An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available in the Sergei Sokol laboratory in the Department of Cell, Developmental and Regenerative Biology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, to study Wnt signaling, the centrosome/cilia and cell polarity in Xenopus and zebrafish embryos, and mammalian stem/progenitor cells. Genome editing and cell imaging analysis will be utilized to study cell polarization and migration during neural tube closure and the links between cell polarity and cell fate specification in the skin and the neural crest. The Biology Department at the State University of New York at Fredonia has an opening for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level for a developmental biologist beginning in the Fall of 2018. Our research focuses on understanding how epigenetics and chromatin remodeling regulate stem cell function. Overview:
A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) as part of a joint project between QMUL, University of Trento, Italy and the University of South California, USA funded by the Human Frontiers Scientific Program. The project ‘Imaging the neurobiology of numerosity- the evolution of counting’ seeks to use zebrafish as a model to unravel the neural basis of non-symbolic number cognition.
This particular research position will focus on the characterization of the ontogeny of numerosity discrimination in wild type and mutant zebrafish. You will work together with 2 PhD students and a post-doctoral scientist within the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences at QMUL under the direct supervision of Dr. Caroline Brennan, but will also closely collaborate with the research group of Profs. Giorgio Vallortigara and Scott Fraser at the Mind Brain Institute, Trento, and the Translational Imaging Centre, Los Angeles, respectively.
The candidate will be the leading zebrafish neuroscientist on the project and in charge of generation and characterisation of targeted loss-of function mutant lines. You will provide mutant lines with differential behavioural abilities to partners for further behavioural and imaging analysis. The project aims at gaining a better understanding of the evolution and neural basis of human numerosity. The ideal candidate for this position should have a PhD in neuroscience. Experience in the generation of targeted loss-of –function mutants and zebrafish developmental analysis would be desirable. A track record of peer-reviewed publications is essential.
This is a full-time, fixed term post available for a period of 3 years. The start date is 1/12/2017. The starting salary is £36,677 per annum and is inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, final salary pension scheme and an interest–free season ticket loan.

Postdoctoral Fellow-zebrafish vascular development
An NIH R01-funded postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Beth Roman in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh. We use dynamic imaging of zebrafish and cell culture models to study the interplay between molecular and biomechanical pathways in the control of endothelial cell behavior in vascular development and disease. Our primary focus is on endothelial bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)/ALK1 signaling, which is disrupted in the genetic vascular disorder, hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). We are looking for a productive, motivated scientist to determine how BMP/ALK1 signaling and mechanical force interact to control endothelial cell migration and prevent development of vascular malformations.
Qualified candidates must have a PhD in biology or other relevant field, a strong publication record, and excellent oral and written English communication skills. Expertise in confocal and/or two-photon imaging and quantitative image analysis is strongly preferred. Previous experience with zebrafish and some understanding of biomechanics is desired.
