Position Summary:
The Shiau laboratory is seeking applicants for a full-time Research Technician position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Our lab uses the zebrafish model system to study the function and development of macrophages and microglia with special emphases on neuroimmune interactions and control of inflammation. Duties:
Management of multiple projects, and analysis and generation of genetic mutants to dissect new pathways in the development of immune and nervous systems. This is a research-focused technical position where the individual must be highly-motivated to do research, and have a strong skillset for careful and meticulous lab tasks, analytical abilities, organizational skills to track and work on different projects and tasks in parallel, and able to work well with zebrafish for husbandry and experimental purposes. The ability of the individual to work well with others and be effective in training others is also important.
Required and preferred qualifications:
Individual with a BS degree or higher in Biology, or related field. It is essential that the applicant have previous research experience(s), working knowledge and experience with basic molecular biology techniques (including PCR, DNA gel electrophoresis, and genotyping), computer skills, strong analytical and communication skills (both oral and written), highly organized, meticulous in nature, and have a strong motivation to pursue scientific research as a career track, including graduate school in biological sciences in the near future. Post Doc – Han Lab
Position Summary
The Pancreatic Cancer Research Laboratory led by Dr. Haiyong Han at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow interested in studying pancreatic cancer using zebrafish models. Our lab aims to develop novel targeted therapies for pancreatic cancer. We utilize animal models including zebrafish models to identify and validate novel therapeutics and to understand their mechanisms of action. By closely working with clinicians at TGen's Clinical Services, we seek to rapidly translate laboratory findings to the clinic. Promising therapies are promptly evaluated in pilot clinical trials. Conversely, hypotheses generated by clinicians based on clinical observations are readily tested in the laboratory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general direction, the scholar will be responsible for designing and implementing research studies, collecting and analyzing data, writing progress reports and presenting research findings in lab meetings.
Prepares research results for publication and assists in the preparation of grant proposals.
Presents research at national meetings.
Mentors junior level team members.
Coordinates with other research groups and institutions on collaborative research studies.
Education and Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. (completed or near completion) in Molecular Biology or related field is desired.

Xenbase (www.xenbase.org) is the NIH-funded, Xenopus model organism. Xenopus is a major model for fundamental cell and developmental biology and human disease modeling. Job Description:

• Import and annotate data from large-scale screens.
• Help develop new features: curation and processing of public and directly submitted RNA-seq and ChIP-seq NGS data from Xenopus experiments, curation of mutant phenotypes and transgenics; implementing GO annotations.
• Co-author reports and publications, and give presentations at national and international meetings and workshops.
Qualifications:
• MSc or PhD degree in bioinformatics and/or developmental biology, genomics, genetics, molecular biology, zoology, anatomy or related field.

PhD Studentship
Phenotype variability in congenital myopathies
Applications are invited for a 4-year PhD studentship at the School of Basic and Medical Biosciences (King’s College London, UK).
The Project
The successful candidate will work on a research project aiming to use CRISPR to develop in vivo models to reveal molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying two muscle diseases: Myosin Storage Myopathy and Laing Distal Myopathy. This is a pluridisciplinary project between two laboratories (led by Dr. Julien Ochala and Prof. Simon Hughes) where the successful candidate will receive a unique training combining molecular biology, zebrafish genetics, cell physiology and biophysics. The preferred start date is October 2017 and the duration is 4 years.
Funding
The PhD studentship is sponsored by the Muscular Dystrophy UK (www.musculardystrophyuk.org). It will last 4 years, will cover the full university fees at UK/EU level and will provide a stipend at the current Research Council rate.
Eligibility

Additional teaching assignments will depend on the candidate’s expertise and departmental needs but may include courses in Introductory Biology, Neurosignaling, Advanced Writing in Biology, Cellular/Molecular Genetics, or those that the successful candidate is interested in developing. The successful candidate is expected to grow a productive research program that involves undergraduate students and to pursue external funding. Faculty members are also expected to engage in service activities at all levels of the university and to provide academic and professional advising to students. |

As part of a major investment in the biological sciences, we are seeking three outstanding individuals to join our Cell and Developmental Biology Research Theme in the Department of Biology and Biochemistry at The University of Bath (http://www.bath.ac.uk/bio-sci/research/cell-and-developmental-biology/). We are especially interested in researchers whose work addresses disorders of the nervous system, stem cell biology, metabolic disease or cancer, but all fields of biomedical genetics will be considered
Senior Lecturer/Reader in Biomedical Genetics
We seek an ambitious researcher in the field of biomedical genetics to contribute to maintaining and enhancing our international standing in biomedical sciences; preference will be given to candidates working with zebrafish (or medaka).
Senior Lecturer/Reader in Quantitative Cell Biology
We seek an ambitious researcher in the field of quantitative cell biology to contribute to maintaining and enhancing our international standing in biomedical sciences; preference will be given to candidates working with high content microscopy and quantitative biology.
Lecturer in Stem Cell Biology
We seek an ambitious researcher in the field of stem cell biology to contribute to maintaining and enhancing our international standing in biomedical sciences; preference will be given to candidates working with stem cells and/or organoids as models of congenital or metabolic disease.
Candidates for all positions will be expected to have a first-class track record of research grant funding and publication and should have an established history of successful collaboration both within and outside their current institution, commensurate with their career stage. The candidates will all be expected to develop and/or contribute to courses within our Biomedical Sciences undergraduate programme.
