PhD Position - University of Gothenburg

PhD position on neurogenesis in zebrafish focusing on the Alzheimer related APP protein

The research of Henrik Zetterberg at the Institute of Neuroscience and physiology at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden is looking for a student interested in pursuing a PhD project in the area of neuroscience with a molecular and cellbiology approach.

We are particularly interested in understanding the process behind the neurodegeneration seen in Alzheimer’s disease and aim to investigate the function of genes related to the disease during physiological and pathological conditions. The project aim to study protein interactions with the amyloid precursor protein (APP) and how this influence post-translational processing and neurogenesis. The student will mainly use zebrafish as a model system but the project also includes cell culture work and depending on the outcome studies on patient material.

The project will include methods in molecular- and cell-biology, behavior analysis, proteomics, immunohistochemistry and imaging. The group is working within clinical and preclinical areas and the working language is English. We welcome scientists and students from anywhere in the world.

Applicants must be highly motivated, have a proficient knowledge of English and a background in neuroscience or molecular biology.

Funding will be provided for a period of four years. Further information about the project can be found at (Application website) or send an email to Alexandra.abramsson@neuro.gu.se until November 7th 2016.
