The Department of Biology at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC, the third largest campus in the University of North Carolina system, invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level with expertise in Molecular and/or Cellular Biology, to begin August 14, 2017. Qualified applicants with research interests in any area of molecular and cellular biology, including those using model organisms to address fundamental concepts in biomedicine or biotechnology, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program and actively engage in mentoring undergraduate and graduate student research. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach students effectively in the classroom by creating and/or enhancing existing upper-level undergraduate and graduate-level courses in molecular and cellular biology. Candidates are expected to engage in university, community, and professional service. The Department of Biology supports a diverse, interdisciplinary faculty and growing doctoral and master's graduate programs. Departmental resources include expertly staffed mammalian cell culture, microscopy (including TEM, SEM, laser scanning confocal, and injection stations), and genomics core facilities, a high performance computing cluster, and husbandry facilities for a variety of model organisms. Our growing department will soon be housed in a new, state of the art Life Sciences and Biotechnology building, currently entering the design stage. Extensive opportunities for research collaboration exist both within the department (www.ecu.edu/biology) and across the university, including the Brody School of Medicine (www.ecu.edu/med/departments.cfm).

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Biology or a Biology-related field with training in Molecular and Cellular Biology are required, as well as at least one year of appropriate postdoctoral research experience. Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire.
