Job Description: We are inviting applications from postdoctoral candidates who will be considered for an exciting new project just funded by NIH. The project will focus on dissecting the molecular basis of sickle cell disease nephropathy through the use of in vivo zebrafish models, including construction of stable and inducible transgenic lines, as well as transcriptomic analysis and therapeutic target discovery in those zebrafish lines.    The qualified postdoctoral candidate will be supported by a long-standing T32 postdoctoral training program in hematology.  Through the T32 fellowship mechanism, there are several supplementary training opportunities including seminars, writing workshops and support for travel to scientific meetings.  The position will be offered with a renewable one-year contract with the expectation of at least a two-year term.  The project will be conducted in the Center for Human Disease Modeling under the direction of Drs. Allison Ashley-Koch and Erica Davis.  Our Center offers a unique, project-based atmosphere that is highly collaborative in a shared-resource setting with cutting-edge molecular and imaging technologies in a state-of-the art Duke facility, located in Durham’s Innovation District.

Position Requirements: Ideal candidates will have a recent PhD in the life sciences (less than 2 years of postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred), or who anticipate completion of their degree prior to starting the position. Previous experience in genetics; cell, molecular, or computational biology; botany; zoology or other directly related scientific fields are desirable. Applicants must be a US citizen, noncitizen national, or legal permanent resident of the U.S.  Persons on temporary or student visas are not eligible, due to the specifications of the T32.  Excellent organizational skills, self-motivation, and creativity are essential skills.
