Post-Doctoral Fellow - Department of Pathology and Immunology, University of Geneva, Switzerland

A postdoctoral position is available starting in January 2017 in the group of Dr. Julien Bertrand, in the department of Pathology and Immunology at the University of Geneva, School of Medicine, CMU (http://www.unige.ch/medecine/pati/en/). Research in our laboratory is based on the zebrafish model, and is focused on the molecular and cellular events involved in the specification of mesoderm into blood progenitors. Our projects involve diverse techniques such as fate-mapping, flow cytometry or live imaging of fluorescent embryos using confocal microscopy.

Current topics of interest include:

1-    Uncover the role of non-annotated genes in red blood cell development

2-    Characterize genes of unknown functions in HSC development

3-    Characterize interactions between HSC and their niche (Mahony, Blood 2016)

Candidates must possess a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent), with strong experience in molecular biology, flow cytometry and imaging techniques. A particular attention will be brought to candidates with a background in hematology/hematopoiesis.

The department of Pathology and Immunology covers strong research in immunology and cardiovascular biology. The School of Medicine offers state-of-the-art core facilities (histology, cytometry, genomics, proteomics, bio-imaging, transgenesis).

This position will remain open until filled. Salary will be determined based on the experience of the candidate and the University of Geneva’s guidelines for Postdoctoral Fellows. University of Geneva is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.

Motivated candidates should contact Dr. Julien Bertrand at Julien.Bertrand@unige.ch and send their CV, including past research experience and a list of publications, a brief description of their research interests, and the names and contacts of 2-3 references.
