Manager, Zebrafish Core Facility

POSITION SUMMARY:

One 1.0 FTE position is available in the Zebrafish Core Facility.  It is the responsibility of the Manager to provide both technical and managerial oversight of the facility and scientific expertise to help researchers in the design and execution of experimental approaches with zebrafish.  The Zebrafish Core Facility supports zebrafish research within the University and serves as a national resource for zebrafish strains and husbandry knowledge. The successful candidate will provide staff supervision and researcher training with respect to zebrafish husbandry and generation of zebrafish strains; internal and external communication; day-to-day facility maintenance.  It is expected he/she will regularly seek research and management skills upgrading and both develop and adhere to standard operating procedures.  The Manager will provide updates on facility activities through both oral and written reports to the Zebrafish Users Committee and internal and external researchers.  The Facility currently houses 20,000 fish with the capabilities of maintaining up to 60,000.  Candidates must be able to work shift hours, including weekends.  This is a grant-paid position.

Requirements:

A graduate degree (MSc or PhD) in Biology or related field.  Specialized knowledge: zebrafish, RAS or other aquaculture, management, research, CRISPR, CCAC or UCLA.  Must be able to work independently, as well as have excellent organization, and communication (verbal and written), skills.  Ideal candidates will also possess the following attributes: problem solving, time management, leadership, teamwork, basic electrical and plumbing, supervising employees, decisive, familiarity with research planning and oversight, attention to detail, computer literacy, initiative, quick learner.  The ideal candidate would have a minimum of 2 years in a senior research position.

Status: 35 hours/week   

Pay Scale: $55,000 annually
