RESEARCH SCIENTIST IN DISEASE MODELING USING ZEBRAFISH - NYU Abu Dhabi

RESEARCH SCIENTIST IN DISEASE MODELING USING ZEBRAFISH

Research Group of Dr. Kirsten Sadler Edepli

NYU Abu Dhabi

The Sadler Laboratory in the Division of Sciences at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to appoint a Research Scientist. The laboratory models liver disease using zebrafish and we focus on the epigenetic regulation of liver development and cancer and the effect of unfolded protein response (UPR) on the development of fatty liver. A fitting applicant will be driven to further understanding these concepts, by contributing scientific ideas and spearheading independent research projects in one of these areas. A second, essential aspect of this position is to maintain order in the lab by mastering the acquisition, organization and upkeep of all lab supplies, equipment and software and taking measures to ensure that the lab functions in a streamlined manner. A third responsibility will be to implement cutting edge technical approaches by developing novel molecular/genetic technologies (i.e. zebrafish mutants, transgenics) in support of current research in the lab. Mentoring other lab members, including undergraduates, is integral to this position.

Applicants must have a PhD in an area of Biological Sciences related to our research, have demonstrated excellent managerial skills and mentoring experience. Mastery of the English language with excellent verbal and written communication skills is a must. We seek engaging, highly motivated scientists who enjoy collaboration and can serve in a supervisory role. This position requires excellent time management and organization skills, in addition to technical proficiency in molecular and cell biology techniques. Experience with zebrafish or genomics is preferred. An ability to excel in both management and to pioneer independent research projects in a dynamic and fast paced research environment is required.

NYUAD offers a stimulating research environment led by a distinguished research community and supported by state-of-the-art research facilities. We encourage work-life balance and provide a family friendly environment. The terms of employment include a very competitive salary, medical insurance, housing allowance, and educational subsidies for children as well as other benefits.

Applications will be expected to begin in the fall of 2016 and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To be considered, applicants must submit a 1. cover letter describing managerial and scientific experience. As this is not a post-doctoral training position, applicants must specify their specific interest in work as a research scientist who will play a managerial and supportive role in our research. 2. curriculum vitae including a complete list of publications, and 3. Contact information for 3 references. All items must be submitted in a single PDF file.
