POSITION OBJECTIVE

Our lab, funded through NIH, examines the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer. Leveraging the whole array of models including cell based, mice and human colorectal cancer tissue and fresh tumor cells, we examine the regulators of its pathogenesis. We now plan to employ zebrafish model, which requires basic zebrafish techniques such as injection and generating KO and KI zebrafish models. Being a part-time position, it is assisted by master’s students and a technician who will take care of other aspects of experiments such as IHC and qRT PCR. Animal husbandry including stock and maintenance of equipments and fish, ordering, participate in feeding & cleaning will be taken care by the facility. This position is ideal for a person with hands-on-experience in zebrafish research, who wishes to have a part time position and a flexible schedule. 

  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Carry out experiments as guided by the PI utilizing techniques such as injection of embryos, genetic models such as Crispr knock out, KI, etc.

2. Setting up mating and injection of embryos

3. Perform other techniques such as subcloning, capped RNA generation, confocal microscopy, and in situ hybridization, etc.

Students: Frequent contact with students working in the lab and facility.

  

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

No supervisor responsibilities. May supervise students/technician using the lab.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of related experience.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS (Update using the Animal Research Job Description Template)

1.     Ability to independently conduct the above-mentioned experiments is must.

2.     Knowledge and understanding of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of molecular biology

3.     Ability to perform genotyping, microscopy, animal-related work, molecular biology, subcloning, etc.

4.     Previous experience of working with zebrafish at least for 1 year is must.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position will work in a lab environment with the possibility of occasional weekend responsibilities.

 

BUMC animal facilities are accredited by the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) and is managed according to the "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals” appropriate Federal Animal Welfare Regulations, and the Public Health Service “Policy on the Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals." This position, and all animal research personnel, are subject to internal compliance to SOM Animal Resource Center Standard Operating Procedures and to compliance regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Policy, AAALAC guidelines, the State of Massachusetts Veterinary Practice Act, Federal Drug Enforcement Administration regulatory guidelines, US Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine regulations and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
