Research Assistant 1 - Yale University

General Purpose:  Provide research assistance for a zebrafish neurobiology and genetics lab and aid with the maintenance of a freshwater tropical fish (zebrafish) facility. Feed fish, check and maintain water quality. Breed fish and raise young. Genotype, sequence and maintain zebrafish CRISPR mutant lines. Maintain lab stock solutions and order reagents. Analyze CNS development and brain structure in zebrafish mutants. Dissect zebrafish brains; perform immunocytochemistry and in situ hybridization.

 

Required Education and Experience:  Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience with zebrafish or aquaculture.
  • Proficiency with molecular biology techniques, PCR, cloning, and genotyping; strong instrumentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability with immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization.
  • Proven experience with light and fluorescence microscopy.
  • High degree of independence, fast-learner, highly motivated, enthusiastic, strong work ethic.
  • Preferred:  Knowledge of human genetics and experience with animal models of human disease.
