Postdoctoral Position - University of Bristol

A postdoctoral position is available from March/April 2016 for 32 months in the Hammond laboratory (with additional biomechanics supervision from Prof. Kate Robson Brown) at the University of Bristol. We are looking for a talented and highly motivated candidate to working on a project that aims understand the molecular and mechanical events underpinning vertebral osteoarthritis using zebrafish as a model system.

The goal of the laboratory is to understand the interplay between genes, molecular signals and biomechanics in making, shaping and maintaining the joints of the musculoskeletal system with a particular focus on osteoarthritis.

To address this goal, the lab combines the use of genetics, molecular and developmental biology with computational biology and mathematical approaches. We are located in the main campus of the University of Bristol in newly refurbished labs with close access to cutting edge imaging, and computing facilities and a newly enlarged zebrafish aquarium. We are located in the fun and friendly city of Bristol.

Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant subject with a first author publication. Previous experience in molecular biology or biomechanics and computational modelling would be an advantage, but full training will be given, so more important is their motivation to learn and adapt to scientific challenges and become positive members of the lab. Salary will be between 31,656 and 35,606 GB pounds per year.
