Postdoctoral Position - Becker group, SMA Trust UK Research Consortium

A 3 year postdoctoral post is available in the Becker group to start as soon as possible after 01. January 2016. The postholder will use SMA models in the zebrafish to find potential disease modifiers and mechanisms underlying motor neuron health and disease. The project is part of the SMA Trust UK Research Consortium (http://www.smatrust.org/research/research-projects/uk-sma-research-consortium/) and comprises (automated) chemical compound screening, and state of the art confocal microscopy (spinning disk and super-resolution).

You will join an exciting research environment - the Becker group has 4 postdocs, 5 PhD students and 2 technicians, CNR has about 70 PIs and staff working on various aspects of CNR development, injury and repair and comprises excellent animal and imaging facilities. You will interact with the powerful Edinburgh Neuroscience group (running seminar/lecture series and fantastic conferences) and with the 5 other postdocs/groups who are part of the consortium in Edinburgh, Oxford, London and Sheffield.

We are looking for a candidate with experience in using model organisms (ideally zebrafish), imaging, and a strong interest in neurodegenerative disease (ideally SMA/ALS). Some experience in biochemistry would be an advantage.

NOTE, since the University has not yet posted the job opening on their site, interested candidates must contact Catherina Becker (catherina.becker@ed.ac.uk) in the first instance and before the end of the year.
