Postdoctoral position - University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago

A postdoctoral position is available with Dr. Owen Tamplin in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, located in the heart of downtown Chicago.

In the Tamplin lab we use the zebrafish to study the blood stem cell microenvironment. These stem cells are clinically important as a curative treatment for many blood cancers and diseases. A better understanding of blood stem cells and their supportive niche will help us improve these treatments and thereby patient survival. The zebrafish is now a well-established model for in vivo genetic and chemical screening. It is the only vertebrate genetic model that allows high-resolution live imaging of endogenous cellular behaviors. We can harness the strengths of the zebrafish model to develop and test unique hypotheses that could not be acquired using any other system.

We are currently seeking postdoctoral candidates who are interested in using cutting edge technologies to dissect the regulatory microenvironment of the blood stem cell niche. Highly motivated, independent, and dedicated candidates are encouraged to apply. Applicants should possess a PhD with a strong background in molecular biology, genetics, or related fields. Experience in acquisition and analysis of imaging data is preferred but not required.

Applications should include a brief description of goals and interests, CV, and three references (including PhD supervisor) and be sent as a single PDF file to otamplin@uic.edu.

Applicants should have:

·       outstanding recommendations

·       excellent written and verbal English skills

·       a strong publication record

·       no more than two years of previous postdoctoral experience
