Postdoctoral position- UC Davis Genome Center

The Dennis Lab is located within the UC Davis Genome Center. Our research explores the role that complex genomic variation plays in human neurological disease, brain development, evolution, and phenotypic diversity. We have a particular interest in human-specific duplicated genes, which have the propensity to contribute to novel species traits. We apply a combination of approaches employing high-throughput sequencing methods with molecular and cellular biology methods using in vitro cell lines and in vivo zebrafish systems.

We are currently accepting applications for postdoctoral candidates with experience/interest in using zebrafish models to test the function of genes important in neurological disease and development. Projects will be based around developing higher mutation screens in zebrafish using CRISPR/Cas technologies to understand the function of human genes implicated in neurodevelopment and disorders, including autism and epilepsy. Major focus will be placed on developing phenotypic and behavioral assays to robustly test the effects of mutations within genes.

Competitive candidates will have a strong background in zebrafish model systems and skills including DNA/RNA delivery via microinjections, gene editing, in situ hybridizations, and neurological phenotypic assessment using immunohistochemistry and imaging. Experience with zebrafish behavioral assays is a plus. Candidates will have guaranteed funding for the first year and are encouraged to apply for external grants and develop independent projects in subsequent years to facilitate a successful transition to independent research positions.

In addition to technical qualifications, candidates must:

·       Possess a Ph.D. in neuroscience, molecular biology, genetics, or related fields
·       Be enthusiastic, dedicated, and team-oriented with outstanding recommendations
·       Have excellent written/oral communication skills and a strong record of publication
·       Have no more than two years of previous postdoctoral experience
·       Sequence analysis and bioinformatics/biostatistics experience is preferred, but not required

Qualified candidates can send a cover letter and CV to Megan Dennis: mydennis@ucdavis.edu.
