Postdoctoral Position - Ecole Normale Superieure, Paris

Post-doctoral position: study of the dynamics of developmental networks by local optogenetic perturbations of the morphogenetic fields.

A postdoctoral position is available in the ABCD Biophysics laboratory of the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris for original, talented and highly motivated candidates willing to address fundamental questions of embryonic development in zebrafish using the optogenetic approach developed in the lab.

The goal of this project is to understand the dynamics of specific morphogenetic networks in zebrafish using local perturbations of the morphogenetic fields as a probe of the underlying dynamical network.

To address this goal, the lab uses novel optogenetic tools to control the activity of proteins and morphogens at the single cell level in appropriate transgenic animals. The response of the animal to these local perturbations is studied by time-lapse microscopy of appropriately labeled reporter molecules/proteins, as well as by in-situ hybridization, RT-qPCR and Immuno-Histo-Chemistry studies on fixed animals. It is then compared with predictions from models of the network dynamics.

The ABCD lab is located at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris at the center of the Latin Quarter. The lab is associated with the Physics, Chemistry and Biology departments with access to core facilities of all three departments (mechanical and electrical shops, genomic/proteomic and microscopy facilities, etc.). The lab has also extensive collaborations with researchers at the nearby Curie Institute and College de France.

Candidates should have a PhD and at least one first author publication. Previous experience in molecular/cell biology and microscopy is required. Basic programming skills (for image acquisition and analysis) are appreciated.  Motivation and originality in research will be highly valued. Salary will be commensurate with experience and follow the institutional guidelines.
