Laboratory Research Technician - the University of Kentucky

 

The Blackburn lab is focused on identifying the mechanisms of drug resistance and relapse in pediatric cancer, using zebrafish models to complement work in human cell lines and patient samples. Our lab is part of the Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry department and is affiliated with the NCI-designated Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky.

 

Responsibilities include:

-       Lab Management such as maintaining consumable stocks and ordering

-       Assist in maintenance of the zebrafish facility and zebrafish stocks

-       Molecular Biology (Gateway cloning, DNA/RNA prep, PCR, realtime PCR, protein work)

-       Cell Culture

-       Microinjections to generate transgenic zebrafish

-       Fluorescence Stereo and Confocal Microscopy

 

Projects will center on using live imaging techniques and drug screening in fluorescently labeled zebrafish tumors. Oranizational skills and attention to detail are critical. Candidates must have a B.A. or B.S., and previous experience with zebrafish husbandry, microinjection, flow cytometry, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, protein analysis, gateway cloning and/or cell culture are preferred. Competitive salary will be based on experience.
