Postdoctoral Researcher - University of Edinburgh, UK

Chemical biology of the Melanocyte Lineage in Zebrafish

An ERC funded postdoctoral researcher is sought for a three + year post in Dr Liz Patton’s group to investigate the melanocyte lineage and its relationship to melanoma. Chemical biology and live imaging of zebrafish model systems will be used to study the role of ALDH genes in the melanocyte lineage and in melanoma. The successful applicant will be part of a multidisciplinary group using molecular, chemical and developmental approaches to characterise the function of the melanocyte lineage in development and in melanoma.

Candidates must have a PhD or anticipate completing a PhD in the near future. You will need to demonstrate that you are energetic and ambitious, have a strong track record and previous experience in the zebrafish developmental biology or transgenic technologies, and imaging.

The research group is dynamic and enthusiastic, and an internationally competitive laboratory, and currently comprises six researchers (we are recruiting four additional posts). We are active members of the international zebrafish and melanoma communities, and have an excellent local group of zebrafish researchers at the University of Edinburgh. We have two state-‐of-‐the-‐art zebrafish facilities that are managed by three permanent staff, and have an outstanding imaging facility.

The MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine has facilities and expertise in a wide range of disciplines; more information on the research in the Institute can be found at www.hgu.mrc.ac.uk/Research/ and www.igmm.ac.uk.
