Postdoctoral Research Associate - University of Virginia

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Kucenas Lab in the Department of Biology at the University of Virginia to study the role of peripheral glia in human sensory and movement disorders. The project, supported by the Owens Family Foundation, involves basic and translational research using zebrafish and mice to characterize the diverse glial populations in the peripheral nervous system and investigate their distinct roles in sensory and motor neuropathies. We are specifically interested in determining molecular and pathological changes in glial cells following injury.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related discipline (i.e. Biology, Cell and Developmental Biology, etc.) by the start date. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in molecular biology techniques including DNA methodologies, PCR and gene silencing. Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience using mice to study glia. Highly creative and motivated candidates who enjoy working in a dynamic and enthusiastic lab environment are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have proficiency in spoken and written English.

This is a one-year appointment; however, appointment may be renewed for an additional two one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
