Research Technician - University of Sheffield, UK

Research Technician - Part time (50% FTE).  The successful candidate will work in the laboratory of Dr Tanya Whitfield (Bateson Centre and Department of Biomedical Science, University of Sheffield, UK).  The Whitfield lab studies the vertebrate inner ear, the organ of hearing and balance. Specifically, this post will provide technical support and assistance for a BBSRC-funded project on the development and function of the semicircular canal system from embryo to adult, using the zebrafish as a model system.  The work will involve routine laboratory support together with the opportunity to contribute to one or more specific research projects.  In addition, the successful candidate will help to provide support and supervision for project students in the lab.

Candidates should hold a BSc or higher degree in a biological or related subject, and have enthusiasm for and interest in developmental biology and genetics.  Practical experience in zebrafish techniques, developmental biology, molecular biology, imaging and behavioural analysis would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic individual who displays motivation and commitment to contribute to scientific research.  Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with other members of the research team are essential.  The post demands a flexible attitude and an ability to respond positively to the challenges faced in the research environment. The post is available immediately, until 31st January 2019.
