Postdoctoral Fellowships in Cell and Developmental Biology
Two Postdoctoral Fellowships investigating ‘cell migration and tissue assembly in liver organogenesis and regeneration’ are available at The Danish Stem Cell Center (DanStem).
The tenure of the positions is initially for two years, with the possibility of extension.
The Danish Stem Cell Center (DanStem) is a research center of excellence at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. The overall scientific goal of the center is to promote basic and applied research on stem cell- and developmental biology of medical relevance. The Center comprises a wide range of expertise and skills, from embryological model systems, mouse and zebrafish genetics and a range of stem cell studies. Read about DanStem at www.danstem.ku.dk
Job Description:
We are recruiting outstanding, ambitious candidates with a strong background in cell and developmental biology to join our group. The overall aim of our work is to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms of vertebrate organogenesis using the zebrafish liver as a model. We focus on the molecular mechanisms that regulate cell fate decisions in the early foregut, in particular between liver and pancreas, and how subsequent morphogenetic processes, such as cell shape changes and migration, are controlling organ size and position during development and regeneration.
We have recently identified several mutants with unique morphogenesis phenotypes, encoding some of the first factors suggested to control progenitor migration. The proposed projects will focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that control how liver progenitors migrate through the cellular 3-D environment to assemble into an organ and the underlying cell- and tissue interactions. A related aspect is to understand how changing mechanical properties and cytoskeletal dynamics of the progenitor cells relate to cell differentiation. To examine these questions we combine state-of-the-art zebrafish genetics and cell biology approaches with high-resolution confocal in vivo imaging.
Qualifications:
· A PhD in cell biology, genetics, developmental biology, biophysics or a similar field
· A strong publication record along with experience in developmental biology or biophysics
· Experience in confocal and live imaging is desired
· Experience in cell biology, molecular biology is desired.
· Experience with zebrafish as an experimental model is considered an advantage.
· Strong motivation and excellent scientific skills are essential.
· Good English communication skills, both oral and written are essential.
