Research Associate - Purdue University

Carry out research in Drosophila and zebrafish related to BMP signaling during development and manage the operations of the Umulis lab in MJIS at Purdue University. The primary research of the Umulis group relies on quantitative measurement of intracellular gene expression and proteins associated with the BMP signaling pathway. Focus on conducting research to support the Umulis' group broader interests in systems biology research incorporating Finite Element Modeling, confocal microscopy and quantitative image analysis to understand the molecular etiology of BMP patterning and embryonic development. Participate in research proposal preparation for submission to federal and state agencies. Since the projects are highly interdisciplinary, it is equally important to sustain and foster new interactions with colleagues and students in Ag. and Biological Engineering and the broader community at Purdue University and with Umulis group collaborators at other institutions.

Required:
  • Ph.D. with post doc experience required in genetics, organismal biology, cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology.
  • 5 years’ experience with in vivo imaging of model organisms during development.
  • Experience in genetics and modern methodologies to alter the genomes of model organisms.
  • Expertise with confocal imaging.
  • Ability to troubleshoot molecular biology tool development for in situ hybridization, genome modification and exogenous protein production.
  • Knowledge of organismal biology, development and genetics.
  • Skills working in a collaborative environment with post docs and students, maintaining animal stocks, writing scientific manuscripts for peer review, fluorescence confocal imaging, classical molecular biology assay operation: westerns, 2D protein, etc.
