Postdoctoral Position - University of Bergen

The Valen lab at the University of Bergen is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to study gene regulation in zebrafish. Gene regulation is a coordinated process acting at multiple levels of which transcription and translation are the most prominent. Our group is dedicated to the fundamental question of how transcription and translation is integrated to obtain the desired protein abundance. The recent development of high-throughput next generation sequencing techniques to monitor both active translation and transcription has made it possible to study this connection on a genomic scale.

The project will require the applicant to apply state of the art techniques such as ribosome profiling, RNA-Seq and CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering to elucidate the regulation of translation and transcription during zebrafish embryogenesis. Specifically, how the choice of isoform affects translation and how translation-mediated decay affect stability of RNA molecules. The work will be done in close collaboration with computational scientists.

The deadline for applications is: April 30th, 2014.
