Postdoctoral position in Seizure mechanisms in zebrafish models of human epilepsy

A postdoctoral position is available to work at the Neural Circuits and Behaviour Group, Uni Research AS, Norway for a period until 30 November 2015.  The postdoc shall characterize new models of human genetic epilepsies in zebrafish (Danio rerio). We have established new models of intractable epilepsy in zebrafish using gene editing and knock-in technologies. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to join our team to characterize the molecular and cellular basis of seizure-related activity in our mutant fish using a combination of high-speed video tracking, transgenic rescue, and imaging. Three major related goals in our work are to: 1) identify the contribution of excitatory vs inhibitory networks to the origin of the seizures, 2) visualize and quantify long-term consequences of seizures activity in vivo, and 3) identify new compounds that reduce or eliminate seizure-related activity.

We are looking for a researcher with interest in the genetics of neurological diseases and a degree in a relevant discipline.  The candidate must have strong skills in molecular and cell biology, including PCR, RNA isolation, in situ hybridization immunohistochemistry, and experience in confocal microscopy. Ability to generate and maintain transgenic animals, particularly zebrafish, would be a significant advantage. The candidate is expected to complete work independently and cooperate well with colleagues in a small team.

The salary for Postdoctoral Researchers (code 8151) starts at NOK 480.000p.
