Postdoctoral position in Automating seizure behaviour screening in zebrafish

A postdoctoral position is available to work at the Neural Circuits and Behaviour Group, Uni Research AS, Norway for a period until 30 November 2015.  We are looking for a highly-motivated researcher with experience in image analysis, computer-assisted tracking and kinematics. The postdoc will develop new methods for automating high-resolution tracking of seizure-related behaviours in zebrafish larvae. He/she will be responsible for directly applying these methods to characterize epilepsy mutant zebrafish in our lab and in collaboration with others. By automating live acquisition, long-term recording of larval behaviours at different stages, and statistical classification of kinematic events, the project aims to resolve how seizures emerge and evolve in our disease models, as well as help develop new high-throughput assays to identify potential compounds that reduce or eliminate seizure-related activity in zebrafish.

The ideal candidate has a degree in computer science or related discipline, must be self-driven and have strong skills in programming, particularly in image and motion analysis. Ability to code rapidly and independently in OpenCV, MATLAB and/or equivalent programming languages is necessary for the project. Experience with microscopy and/or zebrafish would be an advantage. The candidate is expected to complete work independently and cooperate well with colleagues in a small team.

The salary for Postdoctoral Researchers (code 8151) starts at NOK 480.000.

Uni Research has employee insurance and pension agreements and is an equal opportunity employer.
